چکیده

Abstract In cities, traffic is one of the major determinants for air quality. Studies have shown that proximity to roadways with heavy has been linked increased incidence and prevalence a range health effects such as adverse birth outcomes, dementia, asthma, risk bronchitis, wheezing, deficits in lung function growth airway inflammation, especially among children. Mexico, 103 urban areas quality monitoring, whilst more than 2,000 cities lack any information only 29 monitoring systems are robust enough estimate exposure. This poses serious limitations environmental authorities when aiming at assessing current exposure levels Traffic-Related Air Pollution (TRAP) purpose designing implementing policies reduce impacts poor population. study proposes an approach population potentially exposed TRAP using Space Syntax’s accessibility index form variable. We selected ten most accessible roads five Mexican proportion vulnerable (residents, employees, schoolchildren, hospital patients) highest potential distance 500 m. Our findings show similar continually due studies complex models. Finally, this presents alternatives emissions cities.

Cardiovascular implications of exposure to traffic air pollution during exercise.

Regular aerobic exercise is recommended by physicians to improve health and longevity. However, individuals exercising in urban regions are often in contact with air pollution, which includes particles and gases associated with respiratory disease and cancer. We describe the recent evidence on the cardiovascular effects of air pollution, and the implications of exercising in polluted environmen...

Spatial variations in estimated chronic exposure to traffic-related air pollution in working populations: A simulation

BACKGROUND Chronic exposure to traffic-related air pollution is associated with a variety of health impacts in adults and recent studies show that exposure varies spatially, with some residents in a community more exposed than others. A spatial exposure simulation model (SESM) which incorporates six microenvironments (home indoor, work indoor, other indoor, outdoor, in-vehicle to work and in-ve...

Synergistic Effects of Traffic-Related Air Pollution and Exposure to Violence on Urban Asthma Etiology

BACKGROUND Disproportionate life stress and consequent physiologic alteration (i.e., immune dysregulation) has been proposed as a major pathway linking socioeconomic position, environmental exposures, and health disparities. Asthma, for example, disproportionately affects lower-income urban communities, where air pollution and social stressors may be elevated. OBJECTIVES We aimed to examine t...

Human exposure to urban air pollution.

This study deals with some methods of making human exposure estimates, aimed at describing the human exposure for selected air pollutants in Sweden that are suspected carcinogens. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) have been chosen as an indicator substance for estimating the concentration of the urban plume. Earlier investigations have shown that the traffic in Swedish cities contributes around 85% to the ...

Exposure to indoor and outdoor air pollution among children under five years old in urban area

Indoor air pollution associated with cooking and heating biomass fuel burning is estimated to be responsible for 7 million deaths in 2016 and most of these deaths occur in low and middle income countries. In Côte d'Ivoire, 73% of the population is reported using biomass (charcoal or wood) for cooking. The active device 3M EVM-7 was used to measure PM2.5 daily average concentrations i...
